FTTR means Fiber to the remote or Fiber to the room. According to 3GPP, most 5G signal bands are located at higher than 3GHz, better 5G services means more RF power to compensate the air loss. In fact, most 5G services are occurred at residential communities or business units where FTTH fiber is available. 5G RF over fiber is more convenient and more economical than 5G RF over air.
4G/5G signal is wireless RF. WiFi signal is wireless RF. All home electronic devices such as cell phone, laptop, smart TVs connect digital RF signals. WiFi7 over fiber extends the service radius of WiFi7, from less than one hundred meter over the air to a few kilometers over the fiber. WiFi7 RF over fiber can serve more subscribers. 5G Advanced (5G-A) combines 5G FDD signal and WiFi7 signal. 5G-A over fiber has the benefits of both 5G signal coverage and high speed internet for FTTH subscribers.
In the above drawing, GTR5G optical transmitter converts 5G RRU FDD signal and 5G TDD signal over fiber to 32pcs optical antenna remote unit in 20Km fiber distance. GTR5GW7 optical transmitter converts 5G RRU FDD signal and WiFi7 TDD signals over fiber to 32pcs optical antenna remote unit in 20Km fiber distance.
If FTTH subscriber has GPON or XGPON installed, we can insert the above 5G RF into GPON or XGPON system.
